WHAT IS AN AUTOVACCINE?

Autogenous vaccine, or "autovaccine," is a vaccine produced to order. It is not prepared for diseases that require notification. It is a vaccine prepared for the relevant herd from microorganisms in the herd against diseases for which licensed vaccines have failed due to antigenic differences in the disease agents at the serotype, biotype, or genotype level, or for which no licensed vaccine is available, and especially against infectious agents with multiple antibiotic resistance. It cannot be found, used, or marketed in other farms.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE FIRST TO PREPARE AN AUTOVACCINE?

1- The disease agent(s) must be produced and identified from sick and/or deceased animals in the herd (in a laboratory licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Animal Husbandry).

2- The Annex-1 form is filled out with the produced microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc.) and submitted to VETAL ANIMAL HEALTH PRODUCTS INC.

AUTOVACCINE FORMULATION AND PRODUCTION

1- Vaccine strains are selected, produced, and formulated according to the characteristics of the microorganisms causing the infection in the facility, and a specific autovaccine is produced for the facility. Production varies depending on the type of microorganism, but is generally a 3-4 week process (the preparation of a paratuberculosis autovaccine takes approximately one year).

2- Prepared autovaccines are delivered to the facility after undergoing control tests (Annex-2 form). The control period is 1-2 weeks.

Note: The request, preparation, and use of autovaccines are governed by Article 76 of the Regulation on Veterinary Medical Products.
